Designer Gone Wild: MC Michael Hing

We’re catching up with each of the stars of our upcoming event Designers Gone Wild to find out what makes them tick as they get set for a night of cross-firing ideas and creative curveballs.

You’ve met all of our Design stars who’ll be going wild on the night — Lisa Gray, Tim Horton, Mick Alvisse, and Simone LeAmon — but who’s going to be running the show?

To keep things under control on the night, we’ve enlisted the expert assistance of comedian, radio host, writer, aspiring global taste maker and expert sandwich maker Michael Hing.

Check out the rest of the post below, and grab your tickets for Designers Gone Wild, showcased at this year’s Vivid Ideas.

Nifty Fifty

2015 marks a landmark year for Object. This year, we turn 50 years young and are already setting our sights on our next 50.

May will find us in our new home at 101-115 William Street, Darlinghurst – marking the opening of the new Australian Design Centre with an opening night gala event in collaboration with Vivid Ideas.

The gala will see the reveal of the first 50 members of our Australian Design Honours cohort, an online digital publication and a physical exhibition showcase celebrating the leading lights of Australian design. The digital publication will launch in May, whilst five exhibitions will pop up in the William Street Storefront from May through to the end of the year.

Those Architects are announced

Object: Australian Design Centre has appointed Those Architects as the creative force to lead the design of their new William Street Storefront. Those Architects were in a hot contest with other local emerging talents in a closed competition run by Object over the past month. In the end, it was Those Architects’ inventive playful concept that combined transparency, flexibility and accommodated the demands of an existing space that impressed Object.

It’s official: in 2015, Object will move in the City of Sydney’s Creative Hub at 101-110 William Street, Darlinghurst.

Object is set to take over the ground floor spaces, while the guys from HUB Sydney, Romance was Born and a selection of architects, designers and artists-in-residence occupy levels 1-3.

As we prepare for the move, we’re also getting ready for Object’s 50th year (and beyond) with new staff arrivals, a new creative vision, and programming bursting with creative stories from designers and makers across Australia.
