Listen: Resolved Designer Brunch

A few weeks ago, the morning after the opening night for Resolved: Journeys in Australian Design, Kathryn Hunyor hosted a conversation between Marc Harrison and Matt Conway, two designers featured in the exhibition. The trio were joined by a number of other designers and guests, and spent almost an hour discussing the design practices, how they got where they are, and the all important topic of what an Australian design identity is.

Below is the full audio, available to stream now or download and listen to later—you can also grab it from the Resolved collection on Object on iTunes U. Listen right to the end to catch a great question from one of the guests about the responsibilities of current designers as they craft a design identity for Australia.

Don’t miss the Designers’ Den event coming up on 31 May as part of Vivid Sydney, and make sure you check out all of the videos exploring the process of each designer, and insights into the design scene in Australia.

Resolved Videos Begin!

As part of creative program Resolved: Journeys in Australian Design, a series of mini documentaries have been produced. They will be released online, at our Video & Audio Gallery, over the next week and a bit, with all live and ready to be watched in time for the opening of the exhibition next Friday, April 4.

The videos cover two strands. First, each designer has their own video focusing on their work, the process, and their practice. The first of these, looking at Matt Conway, designer of the iconic Bale Chair, is ready to be watched now.

The second strand features a number of thematic videos—looking at things like the design landscape in Australia, or how to take a concept to market. The first of these, Designing in Australia, looks at what it is like to be a designer in Australia at the moment, and some of the benefits and challenges.

Planning A Design Brunch

Planning for our Resolved Design Brunch on Saturday April 5th at 10.30am at Lumierè Cafe & Patisserie (St Margaret’s, Surry Hills) is well under way. Sophie (Object’s Development & Communications Coordinator) and I recently had a planning lunch with independent Creative Producer Kathryn Hunyor, who will be hosting the event. We are very excited about having Resolved designers Matt Conway and Marc Harrison joining us to chat about their uniquely Australian inspired designs. The Brunch will carry on from our opening night, which pays tribute to Matt and Marc’s design inspiration by being wool, macadamia and beard themed. I am looking forward to hearing about Matt’s Bale Chair, which uses wool bale material, and Marc’s well- known Husque bowls made from milled macadamia shells.

Annette Mauer is Object’s Head of Learning and the Creative Producer of Resolved: Journeys In Australian Design.
