The Power of Design - A message from the UK
Friday October 14 2011
Friend of Object Lauren Tan (working on her PhD focusing on the British Design Council’s DOTT 07 project and writer of two articles on designing for education and social innovation in Object magazine Issue 61) drew our attention to a fantastic video out of the UK highlighting the importance of design in education.
Produced by Seymourpowell Design & Innovation Consultants, the Design and Technology Association and the James Dyson Foundation, it features major British design heavyweights including Dyson, Paul Smith, designers from Jaguar and Rolls Royce, educators and more.
The video brilliantly puts forward the argument as to the benefits of design, aimed at influencing politics at a critical time in Britain. As such, it steers clear of trying to push the qualitative benefits for the individual (and, ergo, society) and focuses on quantitative benefits for the economy — money talks, after all.
