Anupama Kundoo at the Venice Architecture Biennale

The links between CUSP: Designing for the Next Decade and this year’s Venice Architecture Biennale just seem to keep growing. Object board member and CUSP Curatorial Advisory Group member Anthony Burke, who is the Head of the School of Architecture at UTS, is co-curating the Australian Pavilion. Toko, working with the co-curators, is heavily involved with the development of the Australian Pavilion, and are also developing the visual language for CUSP.

The last connection to come about was discovering that Anupama Kundoo, one of the designers featuring in CUSP, has been selected to feature in the Arsenale — the curated portion of the Biennale incorporating work from architects from around the world. This year, the Arsenale, as curated by David Chipperfield, has the theme ‘Common Ground.’

CUSP, Marketing & the AdA

Object is excited to announce that the Australian Design Alliance has come on board as an Industry Partner for our creative program CUSP: Designing for the Next Decade. As part of this partnership, AdA Executive Director Lisa Cahill joined the Object team for a day planning marketing and communication ideas for the program.

Last week I joined 10 people from the fabulous Object team to design a marketing strategy for their new project. CUSP: Designing for the Next Decade kicks off in Sydney in March 2013. It will involve 12 amazing Australian designers doing groundbreaking work towards evolving a better future for us all. I’m there because the Australian Design Alliance is a partner on CUSP and Object is one of our valued associate members.

The great thing about being part of this project is that Object takes design thinking into every aspect of the work they do. Everyone at Object is involved in making this project happen — marketing, admin and curatorial staff, producers, the General Manager and Director all contributed.

CUSP Update: Pit Stop

Goodness. Was it really 27 October 2011 the last time I blogged? Wow. Time flies when you’re neck-deep in an exciting, rewarding (and all-consuming) project!

To say that a lot has happened since my last post would be stating the bleeding obvious. We’ve tweaked the exhibition title, searched high and low for some of the most interesting thinkers in the country, created a shortlist, a shorter list, and then an even shorter-almost-final list of exhibitors, asked ourselves lots of questions that we don’t yet know the answer to, welcomed two new Design Partners and an Industry Partner to the project (more on that soon), kicked off work on the project’s identity and website, brought the whole Object team into the worker-bee fold and begun conversations with our national venue partners about how we can make this project truly national in scope.
